How does that scene between Lena and the witch solve the problem of Lena not having enough training when they just showed that this episode takes place right back to back with the Mxy episode where Lena found out? If they wanted to imply that Lena has a longer period to make her competent they should have had her find out about her powers and start training a few episodes back, then use the episodes where Lena is missing to imply she learned a lot off screen. Instead Lena is being full on Mary Sue, as she always is

Sadly, I don’t know how to quote other posts. Therefore, I will summarize a few things. 1) The purpose of Lena’s 2 scenes-to show that she has been studying with Florence and showing progress and to get her back to National City. —How many would complain when she begins to use magic to help the team as to how her skills are if they left out the scene in the cave? 2) I think the reason Supergirl was acting out of character regarding who to help when is in part because the idea of going up against Nxyly has her rattled. That being said the first conversation between Supergirl & Kelly is indicative of them being on different wavelengths at that moment. Supergirl is reassuring Kelly that Nxyly will “pay for what she’s done.” Great! But that does nothing now to help the people that have been harmed especially if those people die before Nxyly is apprehended. 3) The SuperFriends have no idea where Nxyly is right now. Why do most of them need to stand around at the Tower while Brainy tries to find her? There’s 5 of them. Surely, the team could spare someone to help Kelly. That’s not a criticism about the plot because the point is they have gotten used to dealing with the larger than life stuff. I think that must be an easy pitfall when you have superpowers. As many have pointed out-having a blind spot doesn’t make you a bad person, it just means you have room for improvement.

I watched Stargirl after Supergirl on the CW app. It was a very fitting companion episode to this week's Supergirl. Different topic, but still very emotional. Quite different in tone to last week's Stargirl, which was a top notch action packed hour. Great timing from a scheduling perspective. I am enjoying having Stargirl and Supergirl back-to-back.

I didn’t think Kara and Alex were shown as being in the wrong. Certainly Kelly wasn’t angry with Kara or Alex. Kelly hit her limit on what she could handle. She had to shout to her friends to hear her but they did. Who among us like, Kara and Alex, hasn’t been “guilty” of focusing so much on what’s going on in our own life that we’ve not been able to “hear” a friend’s need for support. Who among us hasn’t reached our emotional limit and just had to leave the room like Kelly did. Nobody denied anything Kelly was saying or told her she was overacting, that would’ve been wrong. Kara is the paragon of hope but she’s never been portrayed as perfect. Just because Kara’s an alien doesn’t mean she’s tuned into the racism that Kelly knows all too well. To the outside world Kara looks like a white woman and she’s treated with the privilege that goes along with that. Basically like most of us Kara can do better, that doesn’t make her or us wrong or bad people just works in progress. I suspect your right. Here’s the forum thread that contains Melissa’s IG posts and live videos from last summer. https://supergirl.tv/forum/melissa-s-response-to-recent-events

Nicely said! I'm so sad we still need to have this conversation. I liked the one-on-one scenes between SG and Kelly. Azie clearly based her writing on her life experiences. In one of the interviews posted in the Forum, she recounted how Melissa really leaned into the uncomfortable, emotional scenes. I wonder if Melissa advocated for that, as the progression of awareness for SG parallels Melissa's own journey which she described in an IG conversation last year. Just a thought. Glad to see councilwoman Rankin get what she deserved. Getting Orlando involved as her potential replacement was a nice touch and sends a great message.

it's true that Kara doesn't understand where Kelly is coming from , but basically no one understands where Kara came from, which was at one point the overall arc of the show and its focus. it is hamfisted to take one episode and one (albeit large) issue and try to show how Kara and Alex are somehow in the wrong?

Okay episode. This was definitely handled better than other social issue based episodes. However, it still felt very forced, to me. Kelly had every right to be frustrated, but her anger towards the team felt incredibly misdirected. It's not like they were standing around twiddling their thumbs. I'm sorry, it's touchy with me. Yes, Kelly's battle, and the real world struggles it is an allegory for, matter. Very much. But attacking the people who are aiming to be your allies doesn't always end as well as it did for Kelly. Thats a very easy way to alienate your sympathizers and lose support. Yes, do everything you can to help them see the issue. But treating them like the enemy doesn't make them want to help you...at least in the experiences I've had, and in ther situations I've witnessed. One thing I do appreciate is that Kara admitted she may not ver be able to understand Kelly's position and experience. But that doesn't mean she (and people IRL) can't still work to do better, and be allies. witnesses. I also agree that Diggle's appearances have felt very forced. Especially with Superman & Lois, and Supergirl. I stopped watching Batwoman, but I can't imagine that went any better. Dig has almost nonexistent relationships with everyone on those 3 shows, so he was an odd character choice.

I love the Guardian look, very comic book inspired. It was a great showcase for Kelly. I also liked that the council woman was deflated and got her deserved comeuppance. But, I do take a few notable exceptions to the episode as a whole. I get the message and the reason for it. It was a topic I'd fully expect Supergirl to tackle and fully support it. But, I am surprised it was written as it was by anyone familiar with the show. 1. Kara would have been the first one on the scene in the Heights. She would not have dismissed a real threat that was happening in the now for a potential looming one. It just was not true to the show/character. 2. Alex has always put Kelly's wellbeing ahead of work and pressing matters of urgency. I believe she would have heard her. She may not have been able to relate as Kelly did, as Diggle well articulated, but she would have listened and not have been as dismissive. 3. Nia, although coming at it from a different direction, would have definitely been there in the moment. She can fully relate to being marginalized and not seen, nor heard. More credit should have been played forward to these principle characters, otherwise, the main plot was a well written effort. In another note, I am a bit disappointed that the Diggle crossover story really didn't go anywhere more specific, as this concluded the arc... or did it? Other worlds calling... I also thought the Lena scenes added nothing to the episode and seemed tacked on. I do get they were just nudging her Witch powers story forward, but it felt out of sync with the episode. Don't get me wrong, I love Lena, but her two scenes didn't really work here imo.

Being an African American I was proud that Azie did a good job in getting across her point. What I liked about the episode 1. Any scene where SuperGirl appeared - since at times it seems the writers (all of them) seem to forget this is the last season for the TV series and that maybe viewers would like to see the episodes focused more on SuperGirl. 2. The Congresswoman deflated at the end and exposed for what she really was. 3. I think the message being portrayed that the world needs to see the problem of all regardless of species, color or other differences was a good message - I just don't think it needed to be portrayed as a message that SuperGirl needs to correct in herself - since she is and has portrayed herself as the paragon of hope for all. My conclusions on this episode First, I still do not feel that any of the supporting characters need an entire episode for themselves when these episodes are the last time we see Melissa Benoist as SuperGirl. I feel that Azie as a writer had a very good message that she wanted to get across and I think she succeeded in doing that. However, you do not take a hero whose whole series has been based on that hero being there for all regardless of species or color and to get across your point turn that hero into having the same undesirable attributes of one who could care less about the feelings of people/aliens who are different. Azie could have got her message across without making it seem like she was the only saintly one in the episode. I do not like prejudicial qualities being attributed to a character In a series where she has been the paragon of hope for all and has been there for everyone regardless of species or color. It was a good message but I think it was in bad taste to write a script where you attribute these negative attributes to the character SuperGirl.

A beautiful job by Azie, I’d like to acknowledge the courage it took her to write than act so vulnerably. I believe there are some things that just need to be said. We have to remember that it’s not just adults that watch this show its teenagers too and heck there are many adults that need to know these things. What to some might seem obvious isn’t to others. I have met people exactly like that council woman; I know that portrayal wasn’t just hyperbole. Some of the points I think are most important to take away from the episode. 1) When a friend asks for help it’s important to have a conversation about that even if you aren’t able to help. 2) Don’t ask someone to talk about their trauma for the purpose of educating you, educate yourself. 3) When someone does choose to discuss their trauma listen and thank them for sharing. I liked the bit about guilt being an inactive emotion. Guilt can initiate action but it’s not a complete response. I loved the choice of Nia be the one to say to give Kelly time after she walked away to the training room. Nia was best suited to understand what Kelly was going through at that moment. Nyxly is a great villain and glad it seems she’s sticking around.

Hi, everyone! I'm actually behind on viewing Supergirl for the first time in its 6 seasons. I'm not really interested in the superpowers of the supporting characters. It's OK to highlight them some, but why create an entire new "origin" story in the show's last season? Why not focus on giving Supergirl the send-off she deserves by focusing on her for the entire last season? This show doesn't need new superheroes. All of the supporting actors are fantastic, but I just don't understand why the show is focusing so much on their character arcs. They don't need the wrap-up that Supergirl herself does, with the exception of Alex and Hank, who have been with Supergirl since the first season. I can actually miss episodes during this season and just catch them up later without even thinking about it. I sure do miss Supergirl herself.

I'm sorry but I did not like this show being all about Kelly. The show is titled Supergirl. That is why I've watched it since the very first episode. I do not watch it to see Kelly or Lena.
First, congratulations to Azie on this episode.Second,I think this Guardian suit works fine once I saw it in action and I do like how it's closer to the comics. Overall I enjoyed the episode.Yes it was a message episode but I think it was handled well.I thought it was a strong moment when she made the rest of the team listen to what she was saying. And I really loved the one on one scenes with Kelly and Supergirl. I thought Diggle was great I nthis episode and on power with his Flash appearance this season and better than when he was on Batwoman and Superman & Lois.I don't remember Diggle and James ever actually interacting onscreen but I do like how James was there offscreen. Also this does seem to tee up Diggle becoming Green Lantern and David Ramsey did confirm Diggle would be back post Supergirl where that story will continue. I also loved that Council Woman getting her's. Pretty good episode IMO.Also liked the goofy vibe of the promo for next week.
